Montenegro in one Day

Ideal for those seeking a balance between history, nature, and cuisine—this tour combines the most impressive sights reachable in a day trip from Kotor.

Begin the day with a panoramic drive to Njeguši, a traditional village between Cetinje and Kotor. The road between Njeguši and Kotor was constructed in the late 19th century and climbs from 0 to 1,100m in 25 serpentines. It offers various stunning views of the sparkling Bay of Kotor and the Old Town of Kotor, providing excellent photo opportunities.

Njeguši is a culturally rich town in the territory of old Montenegro. It is also where the rulers of the Petrovic dynasty were born. There, you will taste local products such as smoked ham, cheese, and grape brandy at Kod Pera na Bukovicu, a 136-year-old restaurant in Njeguši. Members of the family-run restaurant will also give a tour of their smokehouse and explain the traditional process of smoking ham.

During the Ottoman period, the only road connecting Cetinje and Kotor passed through Njegusi, making it a centre for history and tradition. We will follow this scenic mountain road to explore Lovćen National Park and walk to the famous Njegos mausoleum at its peak. Lovćen is a symbol of national identity while the mausoleum commemorates Petar II Petrovic Njegos, Prince-Bishop of Montenegro as well as a poet and philosopher.

Continuing to Cetinje, the old royal capital of Montenegro, we will embark on a historic walking tour. Due to Cetinje’s authentic architecture and density of historic buildings, it has been dubbed “museum city”. In addition to the tour, you will also have some free time to explore at your own pace.

A drive will take us to Rijeka Crnojevic, a peaceful town on the edge of Skadar Lake. Skadar is the largest lake in the Balkans. Visitors will find diverse natural wonders including 270 species of birds, many of which are endangered, and plant and animal species that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. History and nature are also intertwined; Skadar is also home to many churches, monuments, and the remains of Obod city.

After enjoying lunch and a scenic boat ride on Skadar Lake, we will return to Kotor with photo breaks at stunning vistas along the way including a stop above the riviera town of Budva.
