Montenegro in One Day: A Balance Between History, Nature and Cuisine

We start the day with a panoramic drive to Njeguši, and go from 0 to 1,100 meters in altitude in an hour. The exciting road between Kotor and Njeguši, with 25 astonishing serpentines, offers stunning views of the Bay. As well as amazing photo opportunities.

Njeguši itself is a culturally rich territory. Among other things, it features the oldest Montenegrin restaurant, existing for more than 130 years. This family-run restaurant is where you’ll develop a taste for local products. Furthermore, we go on a tour of the smokehouse, where the restaurant owners explain the traditional process of smoking ham.

Next, we take a drive through Lovćen National Park, and then walk to Njegoš mausoleum. As a symbol of national identity, Lovćen will leave you speechless. Stories of its history instill a sense of awe and appreciation. So, it’s a must-see on your Montenegro in one day journey.

From there, we continue to Cetinje, the old royal capital of Montenegro, and embark on a historic walking tour. Thanks to its authentic architecture, this place has been dubbed the “museum city”. After we complete the guided tour, you get some free time to explore the city on your own.

A drive to Rijeka Crnojevića is the next item on our itinerary. This peaceful town is located on the edge of Skadar Lake – the largest lake in the Balkans. And it is considered the most beautiful part of the Skadar Lake National Park. There, we will have lunch in a local restaurant, allowing you, once again, to taste some traditional Montenegrin food.

Moving on, we go on a boat tour across Skadar Lake, which is home to almost 300 species of birds. So, you get to see various endangered birds, as well as plant and animal species you can’t find anywhere else.

Completing the Journey

After the scenic boat ride, we complete our Montenegro in one day journey with a drive back to Kotor.

Of course, a photo stop above Budva is on the itinerary as well, offering you the opportunity to make more beautiful memories.
